Our little Adam is one month old. I can’t believe he has been here that long already. His little cheeks are getting fatter. He has gained 2lbs 4oz and grown 3”. He is smiling more with a few giggles here and there mostly when sleeping. When we stand him up he can bear the weight on his straight legs for a few moments. He is still a bobble head, but he is getting better at holding his head straight up for little while.

He loves to hear our voices and really loves when we sing to him. We mainly sing him Phish songs but I get in a few Barenaked Ladies hits and some They Might Be Giants. (And a few made-up little jingles about burritos or poop)

His favorite place is outside looking at our big horse chestnut tree. It calms him down pretty quickly when he is upset.

He sleeps best when laying on my or Marco’s chest. He seems to dislike being on his back.

He still only fits into newborn clothes, our little peanut.

He likes getting a bath.

He hates getting a diaper change, especially when hungry.

He loves to stare at lights and fans.

Whoa! There's a Baby in our House.

I’ve been pretty neglectful of my pregnancy updates for the past month. I have two weeks of unedited belly photos on deck for a post (now posted), but the days just kept flying by as we busied ourselves getting the house ready before baby Arment’s arrival. Not only are we trying to finish a major home renovation that has been in the works since last summer, but we were cramming in all those last minute baby things. Preparing the nursery, taking a baby CPR class, interviewing pediatricians, the list goes on.

As the final weeks continued to slip through our fingers, Marco and I would ask baby, “please don’t come before we can _____.” Our last plea was for him to wait until we took the CPR class. Well, less than 12 hours after that class, I started having contractions at 4AM Sunday April 22. He was a week early. We instantly forgot about all the other things we needed to do and were just so happy we were going to be meeting our son so soon.

After 24 hours of natural labor, Adam John Arment was born at 4:04 AM Monday April 23rd. He was 5lbs 12oz, 18” long and perfect! In the first photo he is only 21 minutes old.

Today he is a week old. We’ve had a busy week of visitors while getting to know our beautiful son. There have already been more little joys this past week than I can possibly count. The most recent was just last night he slept almost 5 hours! which means Mommy & Daddy also slept almost 5 hours straight!

Our tiny little boy is swimming in even the smallest newborn clothes, he has the most expressive face, has been fantastic at nursing, sleeps best next to Mommy, and loves listening to Phish with Daddy.  We are truly in love.

Week 35

After the fabulous baby shower, we’ve been working to get all the baby things in order. It has been a little frustrating fighting with contractors to get out of our house so we can really put the nursery together. I’m so excited for that to be all finished so I can show off some photos. Maybe by the end of next week it will be ready.

I’m still feeling really great. The little guy is pretty active, but I’m not completely uncomfortable yet. I’ve been getting that tight belly feeling more and more. I think that is what people are talking about when they say Braxton Hicks contractions. Nothing painful or regular, just tight.

We started having weekly prenatal appointments. It really is the final countdown. We’re getting increasingly excited about meeting our baby boy!

Baby Shower!

This past weekend my Mom threw me the most beautiful baby shower! It was a teal and yellow owl fantasy. From the decor to the food, everything was incredibly perfect.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended and sent well wishes. You all made this a warm and loving event I will remember forever. Marco and I are now well prepared for Baby Arment when he gets here!

In addition to hosting the shower, my Mom refinished the cradle I was in as a baby. It is stunning! She never stops amazing me with her ability to add light and beauty into the things around her.

33 & 34 Weeks

Weeks 33 & 34

These two weeks have gone by so quickly. We’ve been super busy getting ready for baby Arment and trying to get our house back together in time. (We’ve been doing some remodeling.)

In these weeks we’ve had our final baby class, taken a yoga for birth class, interviewed a pediatrician, had a prenatal appointment, had a doula meeting, picked out our stroller and some nursery items, got furniture delivered…the list just goes on.

But week 34 ended with the most fun part about being pregnant for the first time: my baby shower! My mom threw me a fantastic baby shower this weekend. I’ll be making a whole separate post about it in the next few days.

As far as belly and baby news, nothing really to report for either week. Just a lot of the same feelings as my belly slowly expands. I may be getting a little waddle as I walk and walking up hills leave me a little out of breath. The warmest days last week caused me to stop being able to wear my wedding ring. My swollen fingers made my rings get stuck, so I’d rather not wear them than have them cut off if the swelling doesn’t go away. But I’m still having relatively normal days, walking Hops in the morning, doing some crafty projects for the baby, dealing with contractors, and enjoying time with Marco going out to dinner once or twice a week.

Belly Mapping at SpinngingBabies.com

Our doula recommended this site when I was obsessing over fetal position last week. I wasn’t confident enough to think I could figure out our baby’s orientation from reading a website and mapping where I feel kicks. But at our latest midwife appointment, it turns out I got it about right. So this website really did help.

Week 32

We had maternity photos taken at the end of this week. I was a little nervous to be the subject of a two hour shoot, but it was actually pretty fun. I underestimated the amount of mud and cold since we had the photos taken upstate where we got married. But we really made the best of it. I’m looking forward to getting the photos back from our photographer and showing them off.

Also got some good news that baby has flipped and is head down! Yay! I’ve been obsessively worried about that. It’s great to check that off the list of concerns.

Everything else has been pretty great this week. I feel really good except for a very tired day here and there. I’m sleeping through the night, no stretch marks, and I still have a glimmer of bellybutton remaining.
