The Construction Game
What a fantastic game. What started as a random birthday gift with complicated rules became a family obsession for the weekend. We stayed up until 3 AM playing this game only to wake up the next day, have lunch, and start playing another round for almost five hours.
It looks like Monopoly, but it is a more complicated game of buying construction equipment, bidding on jobs, and calculating your net gains after incurring losses. Each playing acts independently (for the most part) while building their business to a net worth of $1.5 million to win the game. There is a significant chance element with rolling the dice, but you can easily calculate your risk of money loss for each job and decide to play or not based on that risk.
The Round Barn Market
A few of the vendors:
Brodie’s Sugar Bush
Teathyme Herb & Fruit Farm
Flea Market
I would have loved to take so many of these treasures home. But to Marco’s relief, I was satisfied with photos for now.
Memorial Day Weekend: Family BBQ
We had a wonderful and warm family weekend upstate for Memorial Day and Ryan’s birthday. The days were filled with trips to the farmer’s market and flea market, naps, games, hikes, and BBQs.
While you were sleeping
-Marco and I were on a train that hit 2 people
-We were stuck on the train without ventilation for 3+ hours
-At least one of the bodies was removed from directly below our train car
-We were evacuated to a rescue train in the middle of the tracks
What a night. At least we were together and had Twitter, Tumblr, Instapaper and Plants Vs. Zombies to keep us occupied.
The MTA crew was amazing at keeping us informed and calm. I feel the worst for the train driver. I doubt it was an accident because the tracks are completely fenced off from society. The people had to be on the tracks knowing they would die. The rumor was that two men were running from the cops and got hit. But come on, trains are on tracks that are very obvious. Step five feet to the right and you’re clear from danger; and certainly you can see and feel one coming.
Update: NYPD Daily Blotter and Gothamist
Help. I need my girlfriends.
I’m thinking of cutting my hair. I’ve been trying to grow it long since January and it’s just not happening.
Should I stick it out for the hot summer in hopes to have long luscious locks (aka completely unrealistic ideal celebrity hair) or chop it all back to my normal choppy bob for the coming summer months?
Bake at 350° →
I just whipped up this quick page so my brother can choose what type of cookie I’ll bake him for his birthday this weekend. Maybe I’ll turn it into something permanent. I’ve been thinking about baking my way through the Martha Stewart Cookies book.
UPDATE: Ryan’s Picks
1st choice Chocolate malt sandwiches (71)
2nd Choice Macadamia-Maple Sticky Bars (174)
3rd choice Cream filled chocolate Sandwiches (95)
Ok, now I’m on a mission to find plain malted milk powder…
Must Have Graham Cracker Crust...
I’m interviewing key lime pie recipes for Marco's Birthday. Do you have any suggestions?

Mille Bornes: A French Card Game
As part of date night, Marco and I played one of our favorite quick play games, Mille Bornes. We both grew up playing this game with our moms, so we bought a used 1971 edition. We prefer the retro graphics we both remember to the generic and disappointing modern decks.
This is a French driving game where you travel distances and encounter hazards to reach a milage goal and earn points. It’s a simple game with elements of chance and strategy.
Marco won.
