Adam's Owls

In Adam’s room, we have a shelf of owls. His entire life, I would hold him up to see the owls and sing, “The owls go Hoot Hoot!”. This past month we were all playing on the floor in Adam’s room and I started singing, “The owls go Hoot Hoot!”. Adam …

This past month we were all playing on the floor in Adam’s room and I started singing, “The owls go Hoot Hoot!”. Adam turned around and pointed directly at the shelf of owls. We were so excited! It was the first time he deliberately gestured to something we were talking about and really showed that he as been listening to us!

Adam 11 Months

Adam 11 Months

21lbs

A big month for change, as Adam took his first steps! He is still pretty unsteady on his two feet, but he is making quick progress as he challenges himself every day with walking greater distances and standing on his own.

He is interacting a lot more with his toys and other people. He is beginning to wave and point. This month was the first time he deliberately pointed at an object we were talking about. He is even attempting names. He starts yelling “Dadadada” when he sees Marco, calling for “Mamamama” when I’m out of sight, and will even address Hops, “Ha-Ha” when we are playing with the dog. When he is interested in something he often says,  ”Ooooo!”

Adam has also started putting toys together, such as concentrating to put a lid on a bucket or assembling two pieces of a toy together.

This month was also the first time he has gotten sick. We’ve been extremely lucky so far keeping him fever-free, but it was bound to happen. He was a trouper, and we made it through even though the whole family subsequently caught the stuffy-head baby disease.

Adam's First Steps!

There he goes!

We’ve been building up to this for the past 3 days. Today he took two steps without falling! (Not caught on video)

But after some patience, we got a few steps caught on camera! Our little boy is on the move.

This month we have seen little strides towards independence. He’s not officially walking yet, but he can certainly move himself from place to place very easily with the help of furniture to aid in balance. He started using a sippy-cup and feeding himself little pieces of food more successfully. Still no teeth.

He has been spending a bit of time each day watching Sesame Street in baby jail while enjoying a snack, giving me much appreciated free time. But for the majority of the day, I’m following him around the house as he crawls about getting into EVERYTHING. I started calling him Mr. Mischief.

He has discovered the intriguing challenge of stairs and can climb all the way to the top on his own. (While I stand directly behind him ready to catch) He does this feat a few times a day. Sometimes he will bring a toy block up with him, tossing it up one stair at a time as he climbs.

He is still sleeping 12 hours a night and in the morning he entertains himself with touch-and-feel books I leave tucked in the sides of his crib. He still can’t sit still while being read to, but he loves taking his books off the shelf and flipping through a few favorites.

He can now walk on his own with his little Radio Flyer cart we got him for Christmas. Although one of this favorite activities is to be wheeled around while he sits inside. (Check it out on Vine)

He has been much more focused on his toys and has started pushing cars around. It fills me with so much joy seeing him develop into a little boy as he moves away from babyhood.

Baby Hugs ♥

Adam will tuck his arms between his body and mine when he wants a hug. I know this will become one of my favorite memories of his baby days.

As soon as this month began, Adam was on his feet. Right after the holidays, he was pulling himself up in his crib. Our first night home, we had to lower his crib for the second time in only a month. At first, he had no idea how to get back down once he was standing, and we had a few scary moments when he would bang his face on the crib bars. But he got the hang of a more graceful fall after only a few days. Marco and I could only watch, terrified, as he learned how to control this new and unstable ability.

He began pulling himself up on the furniture in the living room almost immediately. He even had a moment of balance (without holding onto anything). Once he mastered getting himself to a standing position with furniture aid, he would get bored when he was standing. So he figured out how to bring a toy up with him.

Crawling is at 100% this month. Hands & knees working together with his belly off the ground.

We are still doing very well with sleeping through the night and taking naps. We had a few wakeful nights and a couple skipped naps, but overall we have been on a pretty consistent schedule this month.

Still no words or teeth. But his new favorite sound to make is “Ooooo!”. He will pucker his lips and “Oooo” at anything new or interesting. It is super cute!
